How to get naturally glowing skin?
Skincare starts from within. It doesn’t matter how expensive that new cream you got is, or whether you never forget to take off your makeup - if you’re not consuming the right foods, sleeping enough or staying hydrated, you’re never going to get the skin you want. So if you want to improve your complexion, here are our top five tips to get skin that naturally glows.
1. Eat more collagen
Research shows that as we age, we produce less collagen in our skin. This is the number one reason as to why age brings about wrinkles, sagging, dull and loose skin. But it’s not all doom and gloom, there is always something that can be done! Certain foods naturally boost collagen production, these are called amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and are needed to produce collagen, fibrinogen and elastin, the components of skin that help to uphold the integrity, structure and quality of the subcutis, dermis and epidermis layers.
A study published in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition last year gave a group of female participants an amino acid supplement for six weeks and examined changes in their skin. The researchers found that skin texture, quality and moisture dramatically improved compared to the placebo.
2. Avoid inflammatory foods
Avoid foods that spike inflammation in the body like refined carbohydrates, sugar, alcohol and chemicals. Any food that causes blood sugar and insulin levels to spike causes an inflammatory response in the body which breaks down collagen and elastin production. Over time this causes wrinkles, sagging and premature ageing. Alcohol produces acetaldehyde as a byproduct of alcohol metabolism which is toxic to the body, resulting in dehydration and toxicity.
3. Sleep seven to nine hours per night
When we sleep, the cells and tissues in our body focus on restoring, recovery and rejuvenation, and this is no different to skin cells. Research shows that when we sleep, blood flow increases to the skin to rebuild collagen, fight free radicals that cause skin damage in the form of wrinkles, repair damage from sun exposure and modulate sebum production.Without sufficient sleep, our skin can not repair so the result is dehydrated, dull and damaged skin.
4. Stay hydrated
Staying hydrated is one of the most effective and cheapest ways to maintain healthy, youthful skin. Drinking enough water will help to flush out toxins from the body to reduce inflammation, and to encourage blood flow to the skin, which results in glowing, clear skin. A study found that the more water participants drink, the healthier and more hydrated their skin became throughout the trial. Aim for three litres per day.
5. Use Blânche Pro Microdermabrasion machine
Once you’ve followed all these tips, your skin health will dramatically improve. Now, to clear away your dull dehydrated epidermis (the outer layer of skin), you need to exfoliate. Dermatologists globally encourage individuals to use an exfoliation method weekly, microdermabrasion ensure dead skin cells are removed to show youthful, supple skin. This machine effectively circulates blood flow to the skin, unclogging pores and stimulating collagen production to ultimately brighten and glow.
If you’re having skin issues, follow these five steps to drastically change the texture, quality and health of your skin. Remember that skin health starts within, so adjust your diet, drink enough water, sleep and have a robust skincare routine, to reveal glowing skin, naturally.
